The Studium Integrale at HTW Dresden

New horizons, new perspectives.

The professional world and its requirements are becoming increasingly complex. We do not yet know how working environments will develop and which technologies will be available to us. The Studium Integrale allows you to customise your studies in an interdisciplinary way and develop your key skills. As a result, you will be ideally equipped for the future business world.

A study programme is more than just taking predefined subjects. You have the opportunity to think outside the box and to study beyond your chosen field. Make the most of this chance to get to know different academic disciplines during your studies.

Our university offers you a wide range of subjects and knowledge to build up your individual expertise. Take advantage of this offer not only in your faculty, but also in other faculties and universities. The offers of the Studium Integrale can be used by all students without restrictions.

FAQs on the Studium Integrale

Registration

The term ‘Studium Intergrale’ covers courses aimed at students from all disciplines. They promote interdisciplinary thinking outside your field of study and help to expand your own personal expertise. Complex problems in the modern working world require a holistic approach and a solution is usually dependent on co-operation with other disciplines. The development of competences outside your field of study promotes your personal development and also your attractiveness on the job market.

There are four steps to participate in Studium Integrale offers:

  1. Select a course from Modulux or from the offers of other universities, if necessary check your timetable and sign up

  2. Attend the classes and take the assessments

  3. Have your performance confirmed by the lecturer on the credit certificate (Leistungsschein)

  4. Hand in the credit certificate for it to be credited to your study course (see “Crediting of performances”)

For the courses at the HTWD, you can register directly with the lecturers listed in Modulux. Simply contact them by e-mail.
If you want to attend courses at other universities, the details for enrolment are listed in the course overview.

The Studium Integrale courses are voluntary and you can withdraw from them at any time. However, you will only receive a credit certificate for the Studium Integrale if you have successfully completed the course with the required examination.

Crediting of performances

There are two options for credit recognition:

Option 1: Studium Integrale is included as a module in your study course
In certain study courses, attendance of Studium Integrale offers is compulsory. You are free to choose which and how many of the offers you wish to attend. However, you must achieve at least the ECTS credits and weekly semester hours (SWS) specified in the study regulations. Submit the credit certificate confirmed by the lecturers of the Studium Integrale offer to the responsible department of your faculty.

Option 2: Studium Integrale is not included in the study course
If your curriculum does not include a Studium Integrale module, it is still possible to have the course credited as a compulsory elective module. On application and with the approval of your faculty's Examinations Committee, you can have Studium Integrale courses worth up to five ECTS credits per semester credited instead of a compulsory elective module specified in the curriculum, as long as the Studium Integrale course is equivalent in scope and requirements (see study regulations). Please contact your Academic Dean for this.

Furthermore, Studium Integrale offers can also be taken as voluntary additional modules. You can apply to the Examinations Office to have your performances recorded on your diploma. Simply submit the credit certificate confirmed by the lecturers of the Studium Integrale course to the Examinations Office. The ECTS credits and examination results of additional modules are not included in the final grade.

The Studium Integrale at HTW Dresden is a member of the Studium Generale Saxony working group. All members recognise performances achieved at other Saxon universities. You can find the participating universities in the overview of offers from other universities.
