Forming and Cutting Technology
Forming and cutting manufacturing processes are used to shape materials by applying forces and temperatures. The processes play a decisive role in the manufacture of components and products in various branches of industry, such as general mechanical engineering, the energy industry and automotive engineering.
In teaching and research, the Professorship for Forming and Cutting Technology focuses on the combination of manufacturing technologies with virtual process design and the application of data science methods.
The focus of research is on:
- Technology development of forming, cutting and machining processes
- FEM simulation of forming processes
- Sustainable production technology
- Application of machine learning in production engineering
In teaching, the Professorship for Forming and Cutting Technology offers courses in the areas of forming and cutting technology as well as machining. In addition to the basic courses on manufacturing technology and production engineering, students receive in-depth courses on the following topics:
- CAD/CAM systems (CNC programming)
- FEM forming simulation
- Modern manufacturing and digital production
