Leave of absence
Students can take leave of absence for a maximum of two semesters for important reasons. Reasons can be, for example, pregnancy, caring for and nursing a child, illness or a voluntary internship.
During the period of leave, students remain members of the university and have to re-register for each semester and pay the semester fees for the Student Union and the Student Council. It is possible to get exemption from the semester ticket or to have the contribution reimbursed proportionally via the Student Council. Please note that the student does not receive BAföG during the leave of absence. Please report the period of leave to your health insurance company as well. During the leave of absence, examinations can be taken on request.
Leave of absence is granted only upon written application. This must be submitted by the end of the re-registration period, stating the reason and along with corresponding evidence.
In justified exceptional cases, the application can still be submitted within two months of the start of the semester.
Please note:
Your application for leave of absence cannot be processed without the provision of reasons and evidence.
